Question
Asalam alaikum My question is I have two wives and my daughter is
getting married soon insha'Allah so will my son in law be able to see
my second wife without hijab does she have to cover herself in front
of my son in law because my daughter is from my first wife my second
wife does not have any children with me so does my second wife have to
cover herself in front of my son inlaw hope you understand my question
shukran suleiman
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify
that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that
Muhammadis His slave and Messenger.
The husband of your daughter is not a Mahram to your second wife, and
the latter is not permitted to expose her adornment in front of him,
and she is obliged to wear Hijaab in front of him. It is your first
wife who becomes non-marriageable for him as soon as the marriage
contract with her daughter is conducted as Allaah Says )what means(:
}...and your wives' mothers...{]Quran 4:23[

Fathwa, - A wife contacting her ex-husband to discuss thefuture of their child

Question
assalm alkm. im second wife to my husband ..i have one girl baby of my
x husband. i want to know whether i can contact x husband and speak
..i want to ask him the money for my baby`s education and future. can
i ask him. do islam allows to speak to x husband after kula or
thalaq.. can we meet him just to ask money for the baby`s
future....please tell me..because my hubby is not spending money on my
baby he denies ...just he gives only fees for the school. that is not
enough so can i ask x husband for money ....
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify
that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that
Muhammadis His slave and Messenger.
Your ex-husband has become a non-Mahram to you, and it is not
permissible for a woman to speak with a non-Mahram man except for a
need and provided that the religious pre-conditions are met as we
clarified in Fatwa 85201.
So, if you need to speak with him, this is permissible but you should
not be in seclusion with him or in a place of suspicion or involved in
any other thing that contradicts the Sharee'ah or could be a reason
for temptation.
It should be mentioned that education fees is not included in the
obligatory spending )upon the husband for his wife( according to the
view of many scholarsalthough some of them are of the view that it is
included.
We also wish to mention that a husband is not obliged to spend on the
children of his wife from a previous marriage and we have already
clarified this.

Fathwa, - The presence of a housemaid is a problem for him

Question
AsalamoAlikum My mother has a young unmarried female worker who helps
her in the home on per month payment basis. She is Non Mahram to me
and given that my home is not that large it creates difficulty for me
to avoid her completely if i have to move out of my room. Is it
permissible for her to wash my clothes)especially those after wet
dream( given that she is in charge of washing clothes at our home? Is
it permissible for me to ask her to prepare for me any sort of meal
and ask for other things like clothes)e.g.where they are kept(? how
can i avoid haram? i have not kept her, my mother gets huge benifit
from her and things would become difficult for my mother without
her.The female worker does not do hijab at our home while working. I
am not inclined to Evil in this regard)Alhamdulilah(. I do not want to
say anything about her intentions)only Allah knows her intentions( but
alot of times it becomes easy for her to see me and I usually feel
uneasy. Jazak Allah
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify
that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad,
is His Slave and Messenger.
Employing housemaids involves many dangers, so it is not permissible
to hire a housemaid except in cases of dire need. The limits set by
sharee'ah must be observed when dealing with them. For further
information see Fatwa 92230.
If your mother really needs this maid, there is no harm in that and it
is permissible for the maid to wash your clothes, including those in
which you had wet dreams. However, you have to remove the traces of
semen yourself lest she sees them and gets sexually aroused.
Moreover, it is permissible for you to talk with her to the extent
needed and within the limits of politeness. You should lower your gaze
from her, and you are not allowed to be in seclusion with her or stand
with her in a manner that arouses suspicion.
Finally, we advise you to marry as soon as possible and try to live in
an independent house in order to avoid the means of temptation.
Allaah Knows best.-

Qur'an Related, - The Qur'an's Literary Excellence

Allah proclaims: "We have made the Qur'an easy to remember" (Surat
al-Qamar: 22).
In spite of the fact that it has an easily understandable style, it
cannot be compared in any way with another book. This is one of
Allah's great miracles. Those who doubted, in spite of clear proofs,
slandered the Prophet (saas), and so Allah revealed:
Do they say: "He has invented it"? Say: "Then produce a surah like it
and call upon anyone you can, besides Allah, if you are telling the
truth." (Surah Yunus: 38)
Even though noone could ever achieve this, the unbelievers could
mistakenly consider it an easy matter. In Arabia, poetry and
literature were highly developed; there were poets and fluent and
eloquent individuals who used Arabic very well. As Bediuzzaman Said
Nursi said, a tribe's literary people were considered the people's
greatest heroes. Given the importance they placed on literature and
rhetoric, the Mu'allaqat (seven odes written by seven poets) were
suspended in gold letters on the walls of the Ka`bah. 8 Some of them
were recited to the people on great occasions, such as the trade fair
at Ukaz. Even the Bedouins could recite poetry that was just as good
as any composed by the urban poets. Whether their poems were metrical
or composed in a free style, the people were moved.9
So, at a time when eloquence and style were well developed, Allah
revealed the Qur'an to our Prophet (saas). It was not long before
these literary individuals, even though their inner arrogance and
conceit made them persist in their rebelliousness, noticed that the
Qur'an was, in literary terms, a miracle.
The Qur'an includes incidents that are means of guidance for people,
allows people to recognize their own lower selves, gives information
about the past and the future. Its richness is infinite and
incomparable. In fact, this miracle is so great that Allah told the
Prophet (saas) to proclaim to those who were too arrogant to listen to
it:
Say: "If both humanity and jinn banded together to produce the like of
this Qur'an, they could never produce anything like it, even if they
backed each other up." We have spread throughout this Qur'an all kinds
of examples for people, but most people spurn anything but unbelief.
(Surat al-Isra': 88-89)
Or do they say: "He has invented it"? Say: "Then produce ten invented
surahs like this and call upon anyone you can besides Allah, if you
are telling the truth." If they do not respond to you, then know that
it has been sent down with Allah's knowledge and that there is no
deity but Him. So will you not become believers? (Surah Hud: 13-14)
Do they say: "He has invented it"? Say: "Then produce a surah like it
and call on anyone you can besides Allah, if you are telling the
truth." No, the fact is that they have denied something that their
knowledge does not embrace and the meaning of which has not yet
reached them. In the same way, those before them also denied the
truth. See the final fate of those who do wrong! (Surah Yunus: 38-39)
Unbelievers remain weak and powerless in relation to the Qur'an's
excellence. No one has ever produced anything like it, and no one ever
will. All the unbelievers' traps and ruses designed to discredit the
Prophet (saas) and prevent him from delivering his message were, as a
blessing from Allah, rendered ineffective.
From the literary point of view, with the Qur'an, our Prophet (saas)
gave the wisest response to his people's powerful and elaborate
rhetoric, to their most famous poets and finest orators. Besides this,
he proved himself superior to all literary people. No doubt this was
one of the effects of the Qur'an's incomparable literary quality and
wisdom. In response to the verses that the Prophet (saas) recited, the
Meccan polytheists were amazed. But in spite of their own certainty
about them, some of them rebelled because of their pride:
If you have doubts about what We have sent down to Our servant,
produce another surah equal to it and call your witnesses, besides
Allah, if you are telling the truth. If you do not do that – and you
will not do it – then fear the Fire whose fuel is people and stones,
made ready for the unbelievers. (Surat al-Baqarah: 23-24)
The great scholar Bediuzzaman Said Nursi interprets these verses in this way:
When the Qur'an came, it challenged at the same time the experts in
these four fields. First, it made the people of eloquence bow down
before it. They all listened to it with amazement. Second, it stunned
the poets and orators so that they bit their fingers in astonishment.
Their most beautiful poems written in gold were given a blow, and the
famous Seven Poems that were placed on the walls of the Ka`bah as an
object of pride were brought down. Third, it also silenced the
soothsayers and magicians, made them forget about their discoveries of
hidden knowledge, resulted in the expulsion of the jinn from the
heavens, and brought the process of divination to a certain end.
Fourth, it rescued from myth and fabrications those who were cognisant
of the events of bygone times and the facts of cosmology, teaching
them the real story of past events and the illuminating knowledge of
the facts of creation. Thus did those four groups bow down before the
Qur'an in astonishment and respect and become its students. None of
them ever dared dispute with a single verse of it. 10
The revelation of an extraordinary book to the Prophet (saas), who had
lived among them all his life, amazed the arrogant people and led them
to hate him without cause. As a result, they did their best to harm
him in every possible way. Although they saw that he was good both in
his life and moral character, they conspired against him:
Those who slandered this good and blessed man were personal witnesses
to his moral superiority. With their own eyes they saw the Prophet
Muhammad's (saas) faithfulness to his promises, loyalty, justice,
honesty, truthfulness, kindness to orphans and those in need,
generosity, and interest in others. His excellent character and moral
qualities always caught everyone's attention, and he was everyone's
most trusted, beloved, and respected friend.
Our Prophet's (saas) moral character could not be denied or ignored.
His moral character, as described in the Qur'an, was pleasing to
Allah, Who made him an example and guide to all people. According to
Islamic sources, Nadr ibn al-Haris attempted to harm the Prophet
(saas) with his words; later on, he met with the idolaters' leaders
and told them:
O Qurayshis, I swear that today you have encountered something that
has never befallen you before. From early childhood, Muhammad was your
most beloved, the greatest speaker of truth, and the one who achieved
the greatest respect. When he was older and brought Allah's Book, you
said that he was a magician. I swear that he is not a magician. We
have seen many magicians and how they breathe on knots. You then
called him a seer. I swear that neither is he a seer. How many seers
have we seen and witnessed their speech? You called him a poet. I
swear that he is not a poet. How many poems have we learned and seen
their metre? You called him crazy. I swear that he is not crazy. Are
there any signs of fainting, nonsense, or fits in him? O Qurayshis
think well and decide… 11

Qur'an Related, - Everything Has Been Explained in the Qur'an

Allah explains clearly in the Qur'an what is right and wrong, allowed
and forbidden. Therefore, it is an easy matter for believers who
listen to the voice of their conscience and avoid the selfish
promoting of their lower selves to find the truth. The Qur'an contains
advice that is full of wisdom. Its wisdom and the goodness enjoined in
its verses are clear. Sincere believers whom Allah has put on the
right path can understand it without difficulty and implement its
truths in their attitudes and ideas, for the Qur'an is "guidance for
humanity, with clear signs containing guidance and discrimination"
(Surat al-Baqarah: 185).
However, only those who fear and respect Allah, abide by His decrees,
submit to Him in their heart, and choose the next world to this one
can consider its advice:
We did not send down the Qur'an to you to make you miserable, but only
as a reminder for those who have fear [and respect for Allah]. (Surah
Ta Ha: 2-3)
This is a major secret of the Qur'an. It does not take a high
intellect, a broad culture, or any special ability to understand the
Qur'an; it is only necessary to have sincerity. Allah reveals the
truth to His sincere servants and brings them to salvation. The Qur'an
has been sent to humanity, but is the way to the right path only for
those who fear and respect Him and believe in the Last Day:
Those are the signs of the Wise Book - guidance and mercy for those
who do good. (Surah Luqman: 2-3)
O humanity, admonition has come to you from your Lord, and also
healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the
believers. (Surah Yunus: 57)
Given the above, we can see that the Qur'an contains advice for
everyone and guides the observant and generous Muslims to the right
path. As the great Islamic thinker Bediuzzaman Said Nursi said:"The
All-Wise Qur'an is the leader to the aware and the conscious, the
guide of jinn and men, the teacher of those attaining to perfection,
and instructor of those seeking reality."7 In order to bring humanity
out of its darkness and into the light, Allah revealed the answer to
every question to those who seek it in their conscience:
We have sent down the Book to you making all things clear and as
guidance and mercy and good news for the Muslims. (Surat an-Nahl: 89)
...We have not omitted anything from the Book - then they will be
gathered to their Lord. (Surat al-An'am: 38)
This is a manifestation of Allah's mercy toward His servants.
Moreover, Allah lets us know something about Him through the Qur'an.
For example, He reveals that He created the universe from nothing,
rich beyond need of any being, is beyond defect, knows everything, and
sees and hears every secret. Besides this, He revealed why and how
human beings were created; what kind of life will win His approval;
the existence of the Day of Judgment, Paradise, and Hell; taught human
beings how to pray and be good, how to be sound in body and spirit,
and what to do in times of difficulty and unexpected situations; and
described the various kinds of human character. But He has also
revealed far more than just these things, for some verses point to
scientific truths and knowledge as well as how to solve personal and
social problems. In other words, the Qur'an contains all of the basic
knowledge necessary for every moment of a person's life:
In this way We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an and have given
various warnings in it so that, hopefully, they will have fear of
Allah or that it will spur them to remembrance. (Surah Ta Ha: 113)
We have spread throughout this Qur'an all kinds of examples for
people, but most people spurn anything but unbelief. (Surat al-Isra':
89)
We have spread throughout this Qur'an all kinds of examples for
people, but, more than anything else, humanity is argumentative.
(Surat al-Kahf: 54)
Allah tells people to obey His decrees absolutely, to take Him as
their only friend and guardian, and that the only purpose of life is
to win His approval and mercy and thereby reach Paradise. The only
criterion for living is the Qur'an, and the only way to follow is the
way of Prophet Muhammad (saas).
Allah, Who was pleased to choose Islam as the religion for His
servants, revealed the Qur'an as a guide to which they could refer and
made the life of our Prophet (saas) an example for them. All other
paths are errant and false, based only on myths, heresy, and opinion.
Therefore, people can hope for a reward from Allah only if they take
the Qur'an and the Prophet's (saas) Sunnah as their measure of
judgment, obey Allah's commands fully by always doing good works to
win His approval, and take the Prophet's (saas) moral character as
their example.
As Allah revealed in the Qur'an, His words are "perfect" and people
can only reach the truth by following the Qur'an and the Prophet's
(saas) Sunnah, for:
"Am I to desire someone other than Allah as a judge when it is He Who
has sent down the Book to you clarifying everything?" Those to whom We
have given the Book know it has been sent down from your Lord with
truth, so on no account be among the doubters. The Words of your Lord
are perfect in truthfulness and justice. No one can change His Words.
He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. (Surat al-An'am: 114-115)-

Qur'an Related, - The Qur'an Contains Advice for All Humanity

The Qur'an is the last Divine book that was revealed to advise
humanity; therefore, its decrees remain valid for all people,
regardless of their particular time or location, until the Day of
Judgment. The Qur'an shows human beings the right path and reminds
them about certain things pertaining to their eternal life. For
example:
It is certainly a reminder to you and to your people, and you will be
questioned. (Surat al-Zukhruf: 44)
The supreme wisdom it contains, the truth it reveals about the past
and the future, and its style that dispels ignorance and unawareness
make the Qur'an unique and without equal. Its miraculous character
applies to all people who will ever live, and its validity began on
the day it was revealed and will continue until the Day of Judgment.
All people are responsible for serving Allah properly. This is
possible only if they believe in Him sincerely and are guided by the
Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (saas). Allah reveals how
wonderful the Qur'an is and how important it is to adopt it as one's
guide:
If We had sent down this Qur'an to a mountain, you would have seen it
humbled, crushed to pieces out of fear of Allah. We make such examples
for people so that, hopefully, they will reflect. (Surat al-Hashr: 21)-

Personal, - Hijaab: A Divine Honor forWomen

Allaah The Almighty Says )what means(:}O children of Adam, We have
bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as
adornment. But the clothing of righteousness -- that is best. That is
from the signs of Allaah that perhaps they will remember. O children
of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from
Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private
parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not
see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not
believe.{]Quran 7:26-27[
O Muslim brothers! It is a great favor conferred by Allaah The
Almighty upon His servants that He bestowed upon them clothing to
screen their private parts, in order to safeguard their honor and
protect them from being played with or violated. Allaah The Almighty
prescribed and commanded that the'Awrah)private parts( should be
concealed, and nothing thereof should appear except what He made
permissible, so that modesty is maintained among people. He legislated
for both men and women the'Awrahthat suits the nature of each of them,
and made it impermissible for either of the sexes to go beyond the
limits of His command.
It is of utmost importance to discuss the'Awrahand how to screen it
particularly in the context of women, because of the influence and
temptation they exert upon men, and by extension, on societies. To
maintain the woman is to maintain the whole society, and to waste her
is to waste the entire society. The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu
'alayhi wa salam, warned of the temptation caused by women,
saying:"Safeguard yourselves )from the temptation of( women, for the
first temptation from which the Children of Israel suffered was in
women."
Ruling onHijaab
When the Noble Verse ofHijaab)Islamic covering( was revealed, i.e.
)the statement of Allaah The Almighty, what means(:}...and to wrap ]a
portion of[ their headcovers over their chests{]Quran 24:31[
'Aa'ishah, may Allaah be pleased with her, said,
I have never seen better ]women[, more trusting in the Book of Allaah,
and more believing in the Divine revelation than the women of the
Ansaar )Helpers(. When that Noble Verse of Hijaab was revealed, there
was no woman among them except that she got up and took hold of her
sheet, and in the morning, they came to offer Morning Prayer wrapped
in them.
They hastened to comply with the command of Allaah The Almighty. As
they had no clothes fit to implement what they were ordered to do,
they got up and cut their garments and made from them headcovers to
screen themselves with.
Compare this behavior with the conduct of such women who claim to be
"civilized", who consider that theHijaabis ]a manifestation of[
extremism, or that she has not yet been convinced of the need to wear
it, or many such excuses which will not avail her any benefit from
Allaah The Almighty on the Day she will stand before Him.
Allaah The Almighty Says after forbidding a display of beauty:}...and do
not display yourselves as ]was[ the display of the former times of
ignorance.{]Quran 33:33[ He further Says )what means(:}It is not for a
believing man or a believing woman, when Allaah and His Messenger have
decided a matter, that they should ]thereafter[ have any choice about
their affair. And whoever disobeys Allaah and His Messenger has
certainly strayed into clear error.{]Quran 33:36[
Hijaabis no less obligatory than prayer, Zakaah)obligatory purifying
alms( and fasting; and this is an indisputably established ruling of
Islam. Who could dare to deny that it is obligatory in the following
statement of Allaah The Almighty )what means(:}O Prophet, tell your
wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down
over themselves ]part[ of their outer garments.{]Quran 33:59[
Islam Wants the Woman to Be a Well-Guarded Jewel
When Allaah The Almighty prescribedHijaabfor the woman, and commanded
her to adhere to it, He wanted her to be a well-guarded jewel and a
concealed pearl, kept far from playful hands, and screened from the
poisonous arrows )of strangers' eyes(. She achieves this when she
abides by the Command of her Lord, and observes herHijaab:}That is
more suitable that they will be known and not be abused.{]Quran 33:59[
When our women from among the righteous predecessors understood
thatHijaabis an obligation from Allaah The Almighty on them, and
consequently, they adhered to it, goodness emerged in the form of
illumination on the foreheads of the generation brought up at their
hands. How excellent were those women as righteous daughters,
sincere sisters, honorable wives guarding )their chastity(, and
nursing mothers! Consequently, at that time, there was not much
deviation in society. But today, when the women abstain from following
the commands of Allaah The Almighty in all the affairs of life, the
result is the outbreak in our societies of adultery, sexual
perversion, rape, violation of honor even against children, increasing
number of spinsters and divorce cases. On the other hand, the great
effect ofHijaabon communities is not hidden, as regards the
maintenance of honor, self-reassurance, chastity and the elevation of
man to higher purposes.
The woman'sHijaabis her honor, dignity and freedom, and with these she
is liberated from servitude to anyone )or anything( other than Allaah
The Almighty; it means freedom from the servitude to the body, the
self, the restrictions of fashion, the )futile( traditions of the
community and the pressure applied by the West.
How Satan Misleads Servants by Stripping Them of Their Clothing
Consider the Statement of Allaah The Almighty )what means(:}O children
of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from
Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private
parts{]Quran 7:27[ It shows that Satan started his mischief on earth
by misleading servants and stripping them of their clothing, and
disclosing their private parts. Indeed, he did not ask them to do so
from the beginning, for he knows with certainty that such a request
would be rejected. But, he made his speech alluring to them, and paved
the way for it, as told by Allaah The Almighty )what means(:}But Satan
whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed
from them of their private parts. He said, "Your Lord did not forbid
you this tree except that you become angels or become of the
immortal." And he swore ]by Allaah[ to them, "Indeed, I am to you from
among the sincere advisors."{]Quran 7:20-21[ He claimed to have pity
and sympathy for them, and pretended that he was just an adviser to
them as he intended nothing but their benefit, and took an oath
regarding that. Thus, they opposed the Command of Allaah The Almighty
which led to their being driven out of Paradise, and sent down to this
earth.
The enemies of this religion realize the danger ofHijaab, as it
obstructs their plans of neutralizing the effect of Islam upon the
Muslim world. Therefore, they do their best to remove it and replace
it with unlawful exposure. In order to achieve this goal, they make
their speech about it alluring )to women(. They do not call directly
for women to remove it, but they do so indirectly in the name of
progress and civilization, personal freedom, and equality between men
and women.
Hijaab: Concepts and Morals
According to 'Abdullaah Al-Huthayl,
Anyone who ponders on the history of the shocks that the West directed
against the Muslims, will find that removing the Hijaab has been one
of their top priorities for which they exerted all possible efforts,
making it the basis for destroying every Islamic community. This has
been done to the extent that one of them stated that by no means would
the East be set aright unless Hijaab is removed from the woman's face
and instead, placed over the Quran. In this way, they succeeded in
many of their schemes after long years of planning.
The more one looks at the state of communities, the more one realizes
that the Hijaab is confronting a war from poisonous hands in the name
of progress and civilization, under the pretext that it restrains the
woman and subjects her to humiliation. One of them dared to address
the Muslim woman saying: "Tear that veil, and throw it away. Tear it!
What evil you are doing? What darkness you are in? What humiliation
are you in? What grave you are in? Destroy it! Destroy the terror
violently without hesitation! Destroy the silence and say and express
your wishes as you like! Destroy the prison...!"
Thus, the woman has been driven by the allurement of speech behind
such claims, and has removed her honor with her own hands, and become
a plaything. However, the Muslim woman who sticks to the command of
her Lord, repulses all the hands that stretch to remove herHijaabfrom
her and unlawfully expose her face, proves competently that
herHijaabnever impedes her from being active in society, taking and
giving. She, all perfect praise be to Allaah The Almighty, is present
in all fields, areas and places: as a physician, an engineer, a
university professor, a lawyer...
According to the Islamic concept, the woman has a pioneering role in
the formation and advancement of society. HerHijaabis not merely a set
of clothes, rather, it is a set of concepts and morals. It is an act
of worship, of higher thought, culture and civilization; and these are
the real standards of evaluating women.-

Personal, - Do not disdain wearing Hijaab

O my noble sister!
If you live in a non-Muslim country, or are forced )by necessity( to
travel outside the Muslim countries that adhere to theHijaab)Islamic
covering(, do not disdain wearing yourHijaabunder the pretext that it
is unfamiliar to the inhabitants of those )non-Islamic( countries, and
that )by wearing it( you would attract their sight to you. That is,
indeed, a devilish trick to remove yourHijaabunder any circumstance.
Your religion, my dear sister, calls you to be distinguished )from the
non-Muslims(. It may be that Allaah The Almighty guides, through you
and yourHijaab, heedless, ignorant hearts.
You should also remember thatHijaabis not a custom, but an act of
worship, through which Allaah The Almighty commanded us to worship
Him. It is impermissible for anyone to give a ruling pertinent to it
depending on his personal reasoning after the ruling of Allaah The
Almighty, just as it is impermissible to give a ruling about prayer,
depending upon one's personal reasoning, in the countries of
disbelievers, after the ruling of Allaah The Almighty on it. Would you
respond to the call of him who asks you to abandon prayer in the
countries of disbelief because you simply attract the sight of people
to you? I do not think you would respond to this false call that is
disapproved by your religion. Similarly,Hijaabis an act of worship,
just like prayer.
Then, how do you give yourself the right to make changes in the ruling
of Allaah The Almighty depending on your personal reasoning? Do you
not recite the verse where Allaah The Almighty Says )what means(:}It
is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allaah and His
Messenger have decided a matter, that they should ]thereafter[ have
any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allaah and His
Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.{]Quran 33:36[?
My sister!
O you whose mouth has uttered )The Two Testimony of Faith(:"There is
none truly worthy of worship but Allaah", in which your heart is
certain, and upon which your body acts. Complete your religion with
yourHijaab, and pay no attention to the vile people and their
devotees, for they only dictate sins and shame you in this worldly
life and the Hereafter. Remember that the gate of repentance is always
open as long as death does not befall you, and be certain that Allaah
The Almighty would never return you with failure, given that He Says
)what means(,}Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against
themselves ]by sinning[, do not despair of the mercy of Allaah.
Indeed, Allaah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He Who is the
Forgiving, the Merciful."{]Quran 39:53[
Before I conclude, let me remind you, my sister, of the conditions of
theHijaabapproved by theSharee'ah)Islamic legislation(, which are as
follows:
1-To cover the whole body.
2-That the clothing is loose, not transparent, nor perfumed, exuding
the scent of incense.
3-Not to have any ornaments like beads, or lace, or other things which
make it like a bridal dress. It should have no adornment at all.
To put on theAbaaya)outer covering garment( over the head, and not
over the shoulders, for to wear it over the shoulder is to imitate
men; and it is impermissible for a woman to imitate men under any
circumstances. The Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa salam, said:"Allaah
has cursed women who imitate men."Furthermore, scholars prohibited
wearing theAbaayaover the shoulders because of theFitnah)trial( it
causes on the one hand, and its being a means of imitating men on the
other hand.
As I have mentioned to you my dear sister, save yourself before it is
too late. Seek the reward of Allaah The Almighty every time you intend
to put on thisAbaaya, and consider with me, how many times you go out
every week.
Every time you put on theAbaayaseeking the reward of Allaah The
Almighty, you would receive a great reward and uncountable good deeds
that you will see in your account}On the Day when a man will observe
what his hands have put forth.{]Quran 78:40[-

Personal, - The veil of deliverance

What is it about the veil that makes it so important for Muslim women?
Allaah Almighty Says )what means(:}And tell the believing women to
reduce ]some[ of their vision and guard their private parts and not
expose their adornment except that which ]necessarily[ appears thereof
and to wrap ]a portion of[ their head covers over their chests and not
expose their adornment ]i.e. beauty[ except to their husbands, their
fathers, their husbands fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons,
their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters'...{]Quran 24:31[
The veil of the Muslim woman is such a controversial issue in the
world. It is viewed in the West as a means of oppression especially
since the feminist movement took hold in the sixties. This mysterious
veil causes so much hullabaloo that one would think it was more than
it really is, just a piece of woven fabric worn on the head. The
symbolism behind the veil is however much broader than that. Perhaps
it is because the veil itself is such an ingrained part of our
history--mine, yours and every person on this earth. And it will be
found there, regardless of which religion one follows.
When we see depictions of Mary, the mother of Jesus, may Allaah exalt
their mention, dating from a thousand years ago--she is always shown
wearing the veil. In fact, when onestops and thinks about it, have we
ever seen her depicted in any other form? The women who practice the
Catholic faith wore it for years, and were prohibited from entering
holy places without it. In fact, it is still worn by nuns to this day.
Christians are instructed in the New Testament in a clear-cut verse in
I Corinthians )11:5-6(, to cover their heads or shave their hair. In
the Jewish faith, rabbinic law forbids the recitation of blessings or
prayers in the presence of a bareheaded-married woman, since
uncovering the woman's hair would be considered "nudity".
Additionally, the veil was a symbol of nobility for the Jewish woman
in Jewish literature.
So why then, when a Muslim woman dons the veil does it suddenly become
a sign of oppression? The unequivocal answer to that question is that
this is far from the truth. Some may argue that in some parts of the
world women are forced to wear it. That much is true; in some areas it
is imposed. So, what is it about the veil that makes it so important
for Muslim women?
There is a multitude of reasons. The veil has, forever been a symbol
of modesty and righteousness. Only over the past 100 years have
non-Muslims thought of it as oppressive. In earlier times, in many
religions and cultures from America to Europe, it was held as a symbol
of worth and honor for the women who wore it. Let us reiterate that
this phenomenon has only taken place in the past 100 years. And that's
not a very long time in the history of the earth, rather just a blink
of an eye.
The veil is not only a symbol of modesty, but is also a form of
protection and identity as Allaah Says what means:}Tell your wives and
daughters and believing women to draw their cloaks )veils( all over
their bodies. That will be better, that they should be known )as free
respectable women( so as not to be annoyed. And Allaah is Ever
Oft--Forgiving, Most Merciful.{]Quran; 33:591[
Think about this for a moment. When is the last time you thought of a
nun as "sexy" or being someone to be approached in order to "hit on"?
Most likely the answer is never and that's the point. The veil
detracts the attention to a woman's beauty, leaving it only for those
in her immediate family, such as her husband, her father and brothers.
Why, one may ask, would someone want to do that?
There are many reasons. The most important being that it is an
obligation for Muslim women to cover their heads. Because it is a form
of protection not just for the woman herself, but also the society as
a whole. That's right, a protection.
Before one says, "Wow, wait just a minute", let me explain a little
further. When one wonders--how in the world is this veil considered a
"protection" for a woman in Islam? The answer is that simply put, it's
a preventative measure. Islam focuses on prevention, and prevention is
always better than waiting on a cure. The veil inhibits other men from
looking upon a Muslim woman as a sexual object, and forces them to
deal with her as a person, rather than focusing on the size of her
bust. The latter is not an option because it should be hidden from
view.
When the body is hidden, the only thing left which others must
interact with is one's mind. This preventative measure puts the brakes
on much of the societal harms such as adultery and premarital sex,
which can lead to unwanted pregnancies, abortions and sexually
transmitted diseases. Not to mention the emotional roller coaster of
uncommitted relationships. Adultery not only destroys a marriage, but
also harms the children whose lives are directly affected by it. The
destructive consequences of these societal harms are the facts with
which we live in today's society. This is not Islam pointing a finger.
Rather it is the reason why our government spends millions of tax
dollars on ad campaigns, encouraging abstinence and sex education for
teens. And because it is embedded in the human nature to want to
pro-create.
For Muslim women here in the United States and all over the world, the
veil carries a significant and sacred meaning. We do not cover
ourselves for our husbands; we cover ourselves for our Creator. For us
the veil is the symbol of our modesty )which we hold in the greatest
esteem(, and more importantly it is a manifestation of our religion,
singling us out from the crowd so we will be identified as Muslim
women. It is also a source of pride for us. When we look at our own
role models, the inspirational women in Islam, such as Mary, the
mother of Jesus, may Allaah exalt their mention, we admire their
character, their modesty and their demeanor--we admire the honor they
had. It is they who we as Muslim women strive to emulate taking our
own personal lessons from them in every manner especially that of
their dress.
The next time one sees a Muslim woman in the store or driving in her
car, he/she understands that she is not oppressed. She's trying her
best to fulfill her obligation to her religion, protecting our society
by her modesty and she is following the example of those in our
history who were righteous; in the hope that she will be able to enter
Paradise in the Hereafter. For us, the veil itself is our deliverance.-

Dought & clear, - Is it permissible to keep and train foxes and wolves and other predators?

I know that it is not permissible to keep a dog as a pet, but what
about foxes and wolves? It is known from years of experience that it
is possible to train these animals and live with them. What is the
shar'i ruling on that?.
Praise be to Allaah.
It is not permissible to keep and train foxes, wolves and other
predators such as lions and tigers, because there is no benefit in
that, and because keeping them may lead to great harm, as there is no
guarantee that they will not get loose and harm people. Moreover,
keeping them is a waste of money and spending on something
inappropriate. It is also an imitation of those spendthrifts who have
no ambition except satisfying their whims and desires.
Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said inal-Majmoo'(9/286-287):
The second category of animals is those in which there is no benefit,
so it is not permissible to sell them, such as dung beetles, scorpions
and snakes. ... Our companions said: that also includes wild animals
that are not suitable for hunting with or fighting, and cannot be
eaten, such as lions, wolves, tigers, bears and so on. Sales of such
animals are not valid, because there is no benefit in them. End quote.
Zakariya al-Ansaari (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
Sales of insects that are of no benefit are not permissible, and
neither are sales of wild animals that are of no benefit, such as
lions, wolves and tigers. The awe involved when kings keep such
animals and show that they can handle them is not regarded as being of
any benefit, unlike cases in which there is some benefit, such
leopards for hunting or, it was said, elephants for war. End quote.
Fath al-Wahhaab, 1/273
The Scholars of the Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas were asked
about the shar'i ruling on dealing in or keeping animals that are used
to fulfil whims and desires, including predators such as wolves,
lions, foxes and so on.
They replied:
It is not permissible to sell predators such as wolves, lions, foxes
and other wild animals that have fangs, because the Prophet (blessings
and peace of Allah be upon him) forbade that. And because it is a
waste of money, and the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon
him) forbade wasting money. End quote.
Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa'imah, 13/38-21
It is well known that many of those who keep and train predators find
that the animal does not forget its wild origins and devours its
keeper, or attacks him or someone else.
There is a story that a Bedouin took a young wolf and raised it on the
milk of a sheep he had, and he said to himself: If I raise it with the
sheep, it will develop compassion towards it and will protect it, and
it will be better than a dog, and will not know the ways of its own
kind. But when it grew strong, it pounced on the sheep and devoured
it, and the Bedouin said:
You ate my little sheep although you grew up amongst us;
How did you know your father was a wolf?
Muhaadaraat al-Udaba', 1/115
And Allah knows best.

Dought & clear, - Is it provenin the Sunnah that if a man wants to move house he should do so on a Wednesday?

Is it really a hadith that it is preferred when moving to a new house
to do so on Wednesday? If so what is the source and authenticity of
the hadith.
Praise be to Allaah.
We do not know of any hadeeth from the Prophet (blessings and peace of
Allah be upon him) or any report from any one of his Companions (may
Allah be pleased with them) to suggest that if a man wants to move
house that should be done specifically on a Wednesday. In this regard,
Wednesday is just like any other day.
What the wise person must do is look at what is best for his
circumstances, such as getting the new house ready for the move,
arranging to rent trucks, and other necessary arrangements. He should
also check that there is a suitable mosque close by in the new
neighbourhood where he can offer the prayers on time and not be
distracted from doing so for any unacceptable reason, without singling
out any particular day for doing that.
And Allah knows best.-

Dought & clear, - Ruling on students standing up to greet the teacher when he enters the classroom

It is customary for the students to stand up out of respect for the
teacher when he enters the classroom. Is that permissible?.
Praise be to Allaah.
Al-Tirmidhi (2754) narrated that Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him)
said: "No person was dearer to them than the Messenger of Allaah
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). When they saw him, they
did not stand up, because they knew that he disliked that." Classed as
saheeh by al-Albaani inSaheeh al-Tirmidhi.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) disliked them
to stand up for him, out of humility towards his Lord, and so as to
differ from the custom of the arrogant and tyrants.Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi.
The scholars of the Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas were asked:
What is the Islamic ruling on students standing up for their teachers
when they enter the classroom? Is it permissible or not?
They replied:
The best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) and the worst of matters are those which are
innovated. The best of generations is that to whom the Messenger
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came, and the generations
who came after him, as is proven from him (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him). His practice with his companions with regard to
this matter was that when he came to them, they did not stand up for
him, because they knew that he disliked that. So this teacher should
not tell his students to stand up for him, and they should not obey
him if he tells them to do that, because there is no obedience to any
created being if it involves disobedience towards the Creator.
And Allaah is the Source of strength. May Allaah send blessings and
peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions. End
quote.
Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa'imah(1/172).
And Allaah knows best.

For children, - The Philosophy behind silence:More Listening, Less Talking

There is a certain stress placed on silence in some traditions. This
stress is such that we can prefer silence to speaking. What is the
philosophy behind this silence? When is it recommended?
As said, the tongue reflects what is in the heart. It expresses one's
inner feelings and thoughts. It portrays one's character and
personality. There are also possible harms due to its use. Imam Ali
(as) says: "The tongue is a beast that will cause an injury when
unleashed." Imam Ali (as) also says: "Man is a wonderful creature; he
sees through the layers of fat (eyes), hears through a bone (ears) and
speaks through a lump of flesh (tongue)."
A person must ask himself before saying anything: "Is there any need
for me to talk?" If there is a need, then it is fine to talk.
Otherwise, silence is better because refraining from unnecessary
speech is a form of worship. Abdullah ibn Masood (RadhiAllahu Anhu)
said: "I swear by the One besides Whom there is nothing worthy of
worship: one's need to imprison their tongue is greater than anything
else."
Silence: The easiest form of worship
Prophet Muhammad (saw)says: "Do you want me to inform you about the
easiest and least straining form of worship? They are being silent and
having a good temper."
An Arab came to Prophet Muhammad (saw) and asked him to teach him
something to enable him to go to Heaven. Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:
"Feed the hungry. Quench the thirst of the thirsty. Advise the people
to do good deeds and admonish them against evil deeds. If you do not
have any power, just guard your tongue from whatever is not good."
Also Prophet Muhammad (saw) says: "A believer's tongue is located
behind his heart. Whenever he wants to talk, he first presents his
words to his heart. If the heart approves of what he wants to say it
issues an order to the tongue to utter the words. However, if the
heart does not issue a permit, then the lips stay sealed. But a
hypocrite's tongue is the leader of his heart. Whenever he wills to
say something, he utters it without the approval of his heart."
It has been narrated that some people were talking together in
Muawiyah ibn Abu Sufyan's palace. Al-Ahnaf ibn Qays was quietly
sitting in a corner. They asked him: "O' Aba Bahr! Why don't you
talk?" He said: "If I lie, I shall fear Allah (SWT). Moreover, if I
tell the truth, I shall fear you. Thus it is best that I do not talk
at all." The importance of silence became clear from the traditions
cited. We learned that man could remain secure from the dangerous
potential of committing a sin in talking by remaining silent. An
intelligent person first trusts his words to his intellect and
conscience to judge before uttering them. If the intellect and
conscience do not give him permission to express those words, then he
remains silent. The traditions that encourage us to remain silent are
meant to free us from the potential bad consequences of bad talk. It
is obvious that talking is an important factor in the development of
man and the society as stated before.*
