General , - I LOVE ISLAM (Do You Know ?)

The Monastery of Bahira the monk in Syria
*This ruin used to be the monastery of the Nestorian monk Bahira, who
spotted the signs of Prophethood on the young Muhammad (peace and
blessings of Allah be on him) while the Prophet was on a trade caravan
on the way to Syria.
*When Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) was about 12
years old, he accompanied his uncle Abu Talib on a trade journey to
Syria. In a place called Busra a very interesting incident took place,
which caused Abu Talib to return Muhammad to Makkah.
*On their trade journey they met a monk by the name of Bahira, who
lived a simple life in a monastery. He had very simple provisions and
lived a harsh life, surviving on the bare essentials. His diet was
very simple and the clothes he wore were also coarse and well worn. He
was looking outside and saw a caravan approaching. His residence was
on the main caravan route and he regularly saw caravans passing by,
carrying different goods destined to be sold in the great markets of
Syria.
*He noticed that this caravan was different; there was something
special about it. He decided to invite the people to a meal and find
out more. Bahira sent a message to the caravan that his hospitality
was extended to all the members of the caravan. The caravan traders
accepted the invitation and arrived at the monk's place.
*When they arrived, Bahira searched their faces looking for something.
He said that he had offered his hospitality to everyone, was there
anyone left behind? They said that they had left a young boy called
Muhammad to look after the camels. Bahira insisted that they send
someone to get Muhammad and bring him to the entertainment. When
Bahira saw the face of Muhammad he was delighted for he was aware from
the scriptures of the arrival of a mighty prophet and he could see the
signs on the young boy.
*After the food, Bahira approached Abu Talib saying that Muhammad
would be a great prophet one day. He said that when he had seen the
caravan in the distance there was a cloud hanging over them, which was
shading them from the great heat of the desert. When the caravan had
stopped under a tree the cloud had also stopped above them.
*Bahira said that he had seen the stones and the trees prostrating to
Muhammad as he had been walking by. They only do this for a prophet of
Allah. He looked at the Muhammad's back and noticed the seal of the
prophets, which was an oval shape protruding just below Muhammad's
shoulder blades. He said that this was one of the signs of a great
prophet to come that was taught to them in their books.
*Bahira said "This is the master of all humans, Allah will send him
with a message which would be a mercy to all humans". Bahira advised
that Muhammad should be taken back to Makkah at once, if the Jews
found out about Muhammad they would try to kill him. Abu Talib took
the advice of this wise old monk and sent Muhammad back with some of
the guides.*

Welcome to Islam, - The originality of Islam

To what extent does Islam differ from older heavenly religions?
How far is Islam original, if compared with Judaism and Christianity
in particular?
The Holy Quran emphasises that monotheism, the Islamic fundamental
belief, is in essence the same one as in Judaism and Christianity. In
the Quran, Allaah Says )what means(:"Not an apostle did we send before
you without this inspiration sent by us to him: that there is no god
but I; therefore worship and serve me"]Quran: 21:25[
He also Says )what means(:"Say, 'O People of the Scripture! Do you
resent us except ]for the fact[ that we have believe in Allaah and
what was revealed to us and what was revealed before and because most
of you are defiantly disobedient?'"]Quran: 5:59[.
Muslims, therefore, believe in the soundness of the belief of the
older heavenly religions contained in the Old Testament and the Bible
which were originally revealed to Moosaa )Moses( and to 'Eesaa
)Jesus(, may Allaah exalt their mention, not the interpolations made
by their followers through centuries. In the Holy Quran Allaah Says
)what means(:"So woe to those who write the 'scripture' with their own
hands, then say: 'This is from Allaah,' in order to change it for a
small price! Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to
them for what they earn"]Quran: 2:79[.
So severely does the Holy Quran condemn those forgers of lies against
God that all Muslim scholars deny the existence of any sound, revealed
books other than the Holy Quran, while the modern in the west have
acknowledged all types of interpolation.
In addition, according to the Holy Quran there is among the Jews a
section:"...who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think
it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they
say, "This is from Allaah," but it is not from Allaah. And they speak
untruth about Allaah while they know."]Quran: 3:78[.And: "Among the
Jews are those who distort words from their )proper( places )i.e.
usages( and say, 'We hear and disobey,' and 'Hear but be not heard,'
and 'Raa'ina,' )i.e. 'give us time to hear you and listen to us'(
twisting their tongues and defaming the religion..."]Quran: 4:46[
So if Islamic belief is the same one as that of Moosaa, may Allaah
exalt his mention, it is not at all the belief which had been
interpolated in the Old Testament.
Concerning Christianity, the situation is similar. The New Testment
was written down a long time after Jesus had been raised to the
heavens. His followers were being persecuted during this time. Also,
many books were written as bibles besides the one which was officially
selected and adopted near the beginning of the fourth century )A.D(.
The creed was, on subjective, converted into a trinity contrary to
monotheism. The Christians had driven Christianity out of existence so
that, when Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam )may Allaah
exalt his mention( was sent, he found nothing but shameful paganism in
the hands of the Arab Christians.
Among the pagan Arabs, the religion of God was not luckier than among
the Jews and Christians. Therefore, at the advent of Islam the laws of
God they had heard were either alternated or abrogated; some of those
were unknown, others were neglected.
What was the situation of Islam towards those legacies?
Islam refused all that was wrong, adopted all that was right,
completed all that was defective and purified all that was diluted,
whether in beliefs or in law, or in ethics:
)One(Islam rejected polytheism, incarnation, and assured pure
monotheism )the oneness of God(.
)Two(It also rejected the silly principle that was adopted by the
Greeks, Romans, and Jews, which made animals responsible before courts
of law. Islam based legal and moral responsibility on reason.
)Three(In legislation and ethics, Islam put an end to narrow-minded
racism and adopted a legal system which prohibits all discrimination
on racial, colour, or ethical grounds. Racism had been lawful at that
time among the Arabs, Jews, and Christians at least in the first
century )A.D(. This Islamic moral and legal system caused a revolution
in both ethics and law.
)Four(In the sphere of law, Islam confirmed the principle of wergild
)blood money( for both injury and murder, which was applied by the
Arabs before Islam, but was unknown in the Old Testament. In Mosaic
law, there was only retribution of forgiveness.
)Five(In the sphere of law, too, Islam did not confirm slavery as a
penalty upon theft, while it had been legal in the earlier systems of
law. Thus, Islam closed a wide grate in the face of slavery and made
man jump towards his liberation.
)Six(Islam set up the doctrine of individual responsibility to put an
end to collective responsibility that was in effect among the Arabs.
Thus, Islam inflamed a greater revolution than that caused by the
rejection of racism and by establishing equality of all races,
regardless of colour and ethnic differences.
To confirm the principle of individual responsibility, Islam rejected
the doctrine of the original sin, in Christianity, and considered all
people innocent till they attain the age of maturity and start to err.
Islam also set up the principle:"That no bearer of burdens will bear
the burden of another; And that there is not for man except that
]good[ for which he strives; And that his effort is going to be seen -
Then he will be recompensed for it a full recompense"]Quran:
53:38-39[.
This principle alone is sufficient for producing a chain of
differences between the Islamic and Christian Ethics; the first and
most original principle, therefore, is to reject the injustice of
collective responsibility and original sin.
Thus, there have been several kinds of specific differences that
characterise God's sound religion from what was abrogated or
alternated. With such original principles, Islam completed the legal
and moral systems that had been known before its advent. This is why
Muslim scholars have decided that the laws in previous heavenly
religions are not ours, unless Islam prescribes them.*

Welcome to Islam, - Islam and social responsibility

One of the serious facts of this present age is that the old norms
have failed to convince and hold our youth, and we are facing a new
time of Ignorance, a fresh 'Jahiliyyah', as the Arabs or Muslims would
state it. Whether this is because Western values are basically false
or that some form of dry rot has infected our communications media,
the fact remains that we are facing a real crisis throughout the
Western world.
This process is the opposite of the great eighteenth-century movement,
which was called the Enlightenment, when Western Europe andNorth
Americaseemed to be shaking off their age-old prejudices.
For Muslims it also forms a contrast to the startling period when the
Prophet Muhammadsallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam)may Allaah exalt his
mention( led his arid peninsula out of chaos, both political and
social, into the leadership of the then known world. In fact, wherever
Islam entered during its earliest youth, the Middle Ages - especially
asWestern Europeknew this dark period in human history - simply ceased
to exist.
The Islamic Era:
Prophet Muhammadsallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallamestablished religion;
thereafter, the Islamic State or commonwealth developed slowly,
somewhat challengingly, during the decade from the year 622 of the
Christian era )CE(, or the Hijrah as it is called - the Zero year in
the Islamic calendar, until his death in 632, only ten years later.
By that time, instead of being a peninsula of mutually raiding
tribes,Arabiahad become a commonwealth, which raised new standards for
the world to adopt. All this occurred within the ten years after the
Hijrah or 'Migration' of the Prophetsallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallamand
his Muslim community from trying circumstances in Makkah to its new
capital of Yathrib or Madeenah as this city came to be called, two
hundred miles to the north in an oasis on the ancient caravan route to
Syria.
The life of the Prophetsallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallamthus lasted from
around the year 570 CE, when he was born, until 632 CE. He was called
An-NabiyyAl-Ummiyyor the 'Unlettered Prophet' in the Quran ]7: 157-
158[
What does this term mean? It means simply that Prophet
Muhammadsallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallamwas not college trained, as we
might expect him to be today; nevertheless he led his people formally
and sincerely to a better way of life. He was the most cultured and
concerned individual yet he had never been to school, only trained to
speak good Arabic by living as an infant out on the desert, where they
spoke the best Arabic in that era.
Almost immediately following his death, Islam burst upon the Near
Eastern and the world scene to take over the whole Sassanid empire of
Persia plus the southern tier of the Byzantine empire as far West as
Spain and Morocco on the Atlantic. This covered less than one century:
by the year 711 CE, or only eighty years after the Prophet's death,
Muslims were on the borders of France in the far West, and they were
entering India to the East.
Islam was termed the 'Middle Nation' ]Qur'an 2: 143[, the community
which was to follow the happy and balanced medium in all matters,
which was the stated aim of both Greek and Islamic society, and indeed
of any moderate one.
Basic Purpose:
The Muslim's basic purpose in life is to worship God in His Oneness
)Monotheism( and not through the trinity of the Christians, or the
duality and idolatry of other religions. The Muslim works through the
power of God's transcendence; in the words of King Arthur, as this
Celtic leader was preparing to enter the next world, he admonished his
Knights of the Round Table: "For what are men better than sheep or
goats, that nourish a blind life within the brain, if, knowing God,
they lift not hands in prayer both for themselves and those that call
them friends?"
God is thus Transcendent, 'Al-Ghaniyy' as the Quran teaches us; while
mere man is only 'rich' or 'wealthy' when this same adjective is
applied to him. Divine service or worship means giving 'worth' or
value to what we respect and revere. We Muslims know God; we meet Him
five times a day at least, and while we are on our knees before Him.
Today our New World is helping to lift the dead hand, which opposed
these concepts, and to spread the universal message of Islam. If we
all are willing to listen, then we may clear up some of the
misunderstanding, which has hindered Western appreciation of Middle
Eastern ethics and values, especially since Islam itself is now
pushing into the cities of North America, Great Britain and
continental Europe.*

Welcome to Islam, - The universal Da'wah of Islam

The Da'wah of the Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, was
not restricted to a particular time or place, rather it was a
universal Da'wah; one to last until the end of time.
There is much evidence to substantiate this and some wonderful
examples can be found in the Quran. Allaah clarifies the timeless
prophetic role of Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, in the
following verses )which mean(:
"And We have not sent you )O Muhammad( except as a giver of glad
tidings and as a warner to all mankind."]Quran 34:28[
"Say )O Muhammad(: 'O mankind! Verily, I am sent to you all as the
Messenger of Allaah."]Quran 7:158[
"Blessed be He Who sent down the criterion )of right and wrong, i.e.,
this Quran( to His slave )Muhammad( that he may be a Warner to the
'Aalameen )mankind and Jinn(."]Quran 25:1[
There is a Hadeeth in which the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu
'alayhi wa sallam, said:"I have been given superiority over the other
Prophets in six respects: I have been given words which are concise
but comprehensive in meaning; I have been helped by terror )in the
hearts of enemies(; spoils have been made lawful to me; the earth has
been made for me clean and a place of worship; I have been sent to all
of mankind and the line of Prophets is closed with me."]Muslim[
The proof that the Da'wah )call( of the Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi
wa sallam, was also for the Jinn is manifested in the statement of
Allaah Almighty )which means(:"And )remember( when We sent towards you
)O Muhammad ( Nafran )three to ten persons( of the Jinns, )quietly(
listening to the Quran. When they stood in the presence thereof, they
said: 'Listen in silence!' And when it was finished, they returned to
their people, as warners. They said: 'O our people! Verily, we have
heard a Book )this Quran( sent down after Moses, confirming what came
before it, it guides to the truth and to a Straight Path )i.e.,
Islam(. O our people, respond )with obedience( to Allaah's caller, and
believe in him )i.e., believe in that which Muhammad has brought from
Allaah and follow him(. He )Allaah( will forgive you of your sins, and
will save you from a painful torment )i.e., Hell-fire(.'"]Quran 46:
29-31[
Thus, the Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, spread his Da'wah
outside of his own people, and indeed, outside the Arab world
entirely. The introduction of Islamic Da'wah spread globally after a
truce was made with the Quraysh in the treaty of Hudaybiyyah. He,
sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, sent messengers and wrote letters to
the various kings of his time. The first of these messengers according
to Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allaah have mercy upon him, was 'Amr ibn
'Umayyah ad-Dimry, may Allaah be pleased with him, who was sent to
Negus, King of Abyssinia )Ethiopia(. He carried a letter, rather an
invitation, which stated: "Come to a word that is just between us and
you, that we worship none but Allaah, and that we associate no
partners with Him; and that none of us shall take others as lords
besides Allaah. Then, if they turn away, say: "Bear witness that we
are Muslims."
Thus, the king and whoever was with him believed in the message.
The Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, also sent 'Abdullaah ibn
Huthayfah, may Allaah be pleased with him, to Chosroes, ruler of
Persia, with a letter that stated: "In the name of Allaah, the
Beneficent, the Most Merciful, from Muhammad, Messenger of Allaah to
Chosroes, Shah of Persia. Peace be upon those who follow the truth,
who believe in Allaah and His Prophet and who testify that there is no
divinity but Allaah and that Muhammad is His Messenger. I call you
with the Call of Allaah, because I am His Messenger, sent that I may
give warning to him who is living, and that the Word )charge( may be
justified against the disbelievers, that if they do not accept His
Message, they must live with the consequence. Become Muslim and you
will be safe. If you refuse, then upon you is the sin of the Magians."
When Chosroes read this, he tore the letter up, so the Prophet,
sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said: "May Allaah also tear up his
kingdom."
The Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, also wrote a letter to
Heraclius, the ruler of the Byzantine, in which he said: "In the name
of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. This letter is from Muhammad
the slave of Allaah and His Messenger to Heraclius, the ruler of the
Byzantine. Peace be upon those who follow the right path. Furthermore,
I invite you to Islam and if you become a Muslim you will be safe, and
Allaah will double your reward, and if you reject this invitation of
Islam you will be committing a sin by misguiding your subjects. And I
recite to you Allaah's statement )which means(:"Say )O Muhammad(: 'O
people of the Scripture: Come to a word that is just between us and
you, that we worship none but Allaah, and that we associate no
partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords
besides Allaah.' Then, if they turn away, say: 'Bear witness that we
are Muslims.'"]Quran 3:64[
The Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, similarly sent numerous
messages to other kings, each conveying an identical meaning as those
above.
These letters re-affirm an understood reality - that Islam is a
universal religion, for all creation. Thus, it was a duty upon the
Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, to convey the pure message of
Islam, calling everyone he knew, by every means available at that time
with beautiful preaching in its purest form.*

Dought & clear, - It is permissible to eat ostrich meat if it is slaughtered properly ,,

Is Ostrich meat permissible ?
Praise be to Allaah.
Yes, it is permissible to eat ostrich meat, because Allaah has blessed His slaves by subjugating to them that which is in the heavens and on earth.
It is difficult to enumerate all the animals that we are permitted to eat. The basic principle concerning all of them is that in general they are permissible, except for those which have been excluded. We may list those which are haraam as follows:
1. Pigs – they are haraam according to the texts of the Qur’aan and Sunnah, and there is scholarly consensus on this point.
2. All carnivores which have fangs, such as lions, tigers, leopards, wolves, dogs, etc.
3. All birds which have talons, such as hawks, falcons, vultures, eagles, Indian falcons, etc.
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade all carnivorous animals which have fangs and all birds which have talons.
(Narrated by Muslim, 1934)
4. Domestic donkeys
It was narrated that ‘Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade mut’ah (temporary marriage) in the year of Khaybar and he forbade the meat of domesticated donkeys.”
(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5203; Muslim, 1407)
5. Animals which we are commanded to kill, such as snakes, scorpions and mice.
6. Things which are abominable or repulsive. One of the basic principles concerning halaal and haraam is paying attention to what is regarded as good and what is regarded as repulsive. Al-Shafaa’i believed this to be the most important and most comprehensive principle. The basis for this is the aayaat (interpretation of the meanings):
“and prohibits them as unlawful Al Khabaa’ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods)”
[al-A’raaf 7:157]
“They ask you (O Muhammad) what is lawful for them (as food ). Say: ‘Lawful unto you are At Tayyibaat [all kinds of Halaal (lawful good) foods which Allaah has made lawful (meat of slaughtered eatable animals, milk products, fats, vegetables and fruits)]’”[ al-Maa’idah 5:4]
On this basis, ostrich meat is permitted beyond any shadow of a doubt. The fuqaha’ have stated that ostrich meat is permissible under several subject headings, including:
(a) al-dhabh (slaughtering meat): when discussing that which makes the animal more at ease, they said: it should be cut in the neck if it has a short neck, and at the point where the neck meets the chest if it has a long neck, such as a camel, ostrich or goose, because that makes it easier for the soul to depart.
(b) The penalty of hunting by a muhrim (one who is in a state of ihraam for Hajj or ‘umrah). Al-Shaafa'i said: if the muhrim catches an ostrich, then a sacrifice must be offered for that. (al-Umm, 2/210)
(c) The permissibility of different parts of it. Ibn Hazam said: Whoever swears that he will not eat eggs does not break that vow unless he eats the egg of a chicken in particular; the vow is not broken by his eating the egg of an ostrich or any other bird, or fish eggs, because of that which we have mentioned. This is the view of Abu Haneefah, al-Shaafa'i and Abu Sulaymaan.(al-Muhalla, 6/327)
Note:
Al-Fayoomi said:
The word ostrich (na’aamah) applies to both male and female; the plural is na’aam.(al-Misbaah al-Muneer, p. 615)
And Allaah knows best.*

Dought & clear, - Eating beefthat has not been slaughtered properly until after it has been killed ,,

I am presently residing in Canada. I have learned that in this country, in the province that I live in (ontario), the animals for beef etc..are killed then slaughtered.
So this will defeat the purpose of any muslim eating this meat. Since, the animal is dead before it is slaughtered. Some say we can eat the meat in Canada becaue these pple here are ahlul kitab. So, my question is when invited and eating at a muslim family's home who believes that they can go to the local supper market and buy the meat and eat from it. And insist the meat is halal to be eaten....what must I do? Should I just eat the meat even though I know they buy from the local supper market? I have tried telling them in a nice manner, directly, but they insist that the meat is halal. I am a new muslim and they have been very supportive in my hard times.
I do not want to just snob them or not visit them due to my fears. What is my obligation and can I eat the meat??? Please help, most lecturers and scholars that come here, keep insisting that the question has been answered and never answer it for us new muslim. And I have done my research as far as what I can do and not do and I am really not sure on this
Praise be to Allaah.
Beef that has been killed before being slaughtered (i.e., before its neck is cut in the halaal method) is considered to bemaytah(“dead meat”) and it is not permissible to eat it, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“He has forbidden you only Al Maitah (meat of a dead animal), blood, the flesh of swine, and any animal which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allaah (or has been slaughtered for idols or on which Allaah’s Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering). But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, and not transgressing, then, Allaah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful
[al-Nahl 16:115]
With regard to what you mention about some Muslims eat meating that has been killed before being slaughtered, it may be that they are sure that the meat that they are eating has been slaughtered according to sharee’ah, or it may be that they are ignorant of the rulings on this kind of meat, or they may have asked (scholars) who told them that this meat is halaal.
Whatever the case, you have to avoid eating these meats, and if anyone asks you to eat it, you should refuse to do so, and explain why you are refusing – so that they will follow that or at least excuse you for not eating it.
With regard to what you mention about some people saying that it is permissible to eat this meat because they are the People of the Book, the answer is that it is permissible to eat meat that has been slaughtered by the People of the Book, but this meat that you describe is not meat that has been slaughtered by them; rather it is dead meat, and it is not permissible to eat dead meat even if it was killed by a Muslim.
Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
“Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
‘Made lawful to you this day are At Tayyibaat [all kinds of Halaal (lawful) foods, which Allaah has made lawful (meat of slaughtered eatable animals, milk products, fats, vegetables and fruits)]. The food (slaughtered cattle, eatable animals) of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) is lawful to you and yours is lawful to them’
[al-Maa’idah 5:5]
This aayah makes it clear to us that the food of the People of the Book – i.e., the Jews and Christians – is permissible for us, but if we know that they have slaughtered a permissible animal in a manner other than that prescribed in sharee’ah, such as killing it by strangulation, electric shock, hitting it on the head, etc., then it is meat “which has been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow” (cf. al-Maa'idah 5:3), so it is haraam, just as meat which has been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow by a Muslim is also forbidden to us. But if we do not know what is the case, then the meat slaughtered by them is halaal for us, in accordance with the aayah.”

In conclusion, we hope that you will spread the fatwa of Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz to the Muslims whom you know, as much as you can. And Allaah knows best.*
